Digital Excellence is a program to teach students more about digital technology.
The Digital Excellence program that has been introduced to our school this year aims to provide our students with the skills they need today and for a digital future.
As part of this program students in year 1 are learning about the parts of a computer, Year 2 are learning to use digital cameras, those in years 3 and 4 are extending their skills to creating Photostories, whilst years 5 and 6 students have been developing their ability to send and receive email using their own ‘Mymail’ accounts and extending their word processing skills.
At school, each student now has an individual electronic account linked to storage, email and internet access.Students are being introduced to storing, managing and sharing their work.
Throughout all these activities there is a strong message of cyber safety, with students completing a number of activities from the CyberQuoll safety program. All students who access the school’s computer network or internet site are expected to sign a "computer use agreement" and to follow its rules.Failure to do so may result in the loss of the student’s access. The program is designed to reward students for the work that they do in class. After a student has achieved a level they are rewarded with a Cloth Badge, which is presented in assembly. The students also have the chance to earn certificates when they are performing above expectations.
We are very excited that we are about to enter the next stage of Digital Excellence. This is an ‘online’ version which students and parents will be able to access from home. This gives the students a much greater opportunity to practise their skills and enables parents to gain an understanding of what is expected of their children and, perhaps, to even learn alongside them.
